    York Maine Deeds 1642-1737
    18 Volumes on DVD
This DVD contains the 18 volume series containing hundreds of York County Deeds from 1642 to 1737.
The area of York county was very unsettled in the early years of the United States. This series of books represents the best effort by the Maine Historical Society and the Maine Genealogical Society to collect all the deeds that represent was nominally York county during this time period.
The earliest deeds in the collection come from the Gorges Province of Maine. In 1651, Massachusetts enforced its claim to Southern Maine as far east as Casco Bay and organized this territory under the name Yorkshire (York County.) York County gradually extended its jurisdiction eastward and reached all the way to the St. Croix River. This territory stayed completely as York County until it broke apart in 1760 - creating the additional counties of Cumberland and Lincoln.
This DVD runs on all Windows and Macintosh computers. You must have a web browser and Adobe Acrobat Reader - (available for free download if you do not have it installed on your computer.) The book index is organized in an HTML menu that is compatible with all browsers and the books themselves are in PDF format to allow them to be universally accessed.
